Thesis Supervisory Panels as the New Design Studio Paradigm in UTM Master of Architecture Programme

The UTM’s M.Arch programme revitalized its Design Studio programme, also known as the Architectural Thesis (ADT), when it introduced Supervisory Panel system in 2013. Developed an expansion from preceding 5-year B.Arch and 3+3 Integration ADT expanded previous 2-stage final year spanning over two semesters into four, introducing TSP, implementing vertical studio allowing students to choose their own paths. was developed Workbase system, a hands-on, master-led approach influenced by Ecole des Beaux Arts Bauhaus. authors intend tell story of changes throughout years. This paper records growth development TSPs tracing origin practiced since 1980s with data collected Coordinator’s files, departmental publications documentations have been organized simple narrative. By framing narrative on back TSPs, offer better understanding inner workings UTM encourages improving strengthening established opens up new studies that could enrich diversify further.
